Munich, 11th May 2024 – The Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) proudly announced during its General Assembly the launch of its ambitious Strategic Plan 2024-2027, aimed at amplifying the voices of marginalized and oppressed communities worldwide while championing their fundamental rights.
As a foundation and international platform of solidarity, UNPO has been steadfast in its commitment to promoting the rights of unrepresented peoples across the globe. With 39 member communities from diverse backgrounds, UNPO supports those struggling to have their voices heard in decision-making processes and to freely determine their own destinies.
The new strategic plan, crafted following extensive consultations with members and stakeholders, underscores UNPO’s vision for a world where all peoples’ voices are respected, and their fundamental rights upheld. It is a vision of solidarity, cooperation, and friendship among peoples, forming the bedrock of universal peace and sustainable development.
Key themes of the strategic plan include:
- Re-imagining Self-Determination: UNPO will foster a deeper understanding of the right to self-determination as a cornerstone of peace. By engaging with academia, international actors, and its own members, UNPO aims to explore innovative approaches to realizing this fundamental right within the current geopolitical context.
- Democratic Pluralism: Central to UNPO’s mission is advocating for political systems in which all voices are heard and respected. Through capacity-building initiatives and advocacy efforts, UNPO will empower its members to participate meaningfully in decision-making processes and combat intolerance and discrimination.
- Sustainable Empowerment: UNPO recognizes the urgent need to address environmental challenges facing unrepresented communities. By facilitating their participation in global environmental forums and advocating for equitable solutions, UNPO will empower its members to protect their natural heritage and build resilient, sustainable futures.
- Preserving Identities, Re-Owning Narratives: UNPO will support its members in preserving their unique cultural heritage and reclaiming their narratives from misrepresentation. Through archival initiatives, educational programs, and advocacy efforts, UNPO will amplify the rich cultural diversity of its members and promote understanding and respect.
