Mission, Vision and Values
The UNPO is the sole international membership organisation working to develop understanding of and respect for the collective rights of all Peoples and Nations, including their right of political participation and equal representation, with the respect of self-determination of Peoples as a cornerstone of peaceful and inclusive societies.
UNPO believes that true universal peace and development are built on the pillars of solidarity, respect, cooperation, and friendship among all Peoples and Nations. This future ensures full and equal participation, empowering all nations and peoples to fully realize their potential within a fair and equitable society. It embraces diversity, encourages positive exchanges and dialogues, and upholds justice within sustainable, democratic, and pluralistic societies.
We affirm every people’s right to choose their own path and to take part in shaping their political, cultural, and economic future. True self-determination means more than independence, it is the freedom to decide how communities wish to live, develop, and govern themselves in ways that reflect their unique identities and aspirations.
We believe in open, accountable, and inclusive governance that values every voice. Democratic pluralism thrives where diverse perspectives are welcomed, and decisions are made through transparency, participation, and mutual respect. It is built on freedom of thought, conscience, and belief, ensuring that dialogue, not domination—guides collective progress.
We uphold the universality of human rights and the inherent dignity of every person, regardless of origin, identity, or status. Protecting these rights is fundamental to justice and peace, and we work to ensure that all peoples can live free from discrimination, repression, and fear.
We reject violence as a means of change and stand for dialogue, understanding, and cooperation. Non-violence is not passive, it is an active commitment to resolving conflict through empathy, patience, and solidarity, fostering tolerance and peace among all communities.
We recognize peoples and nations as guardians of their lands, cultures, and natural resources. Protecting the environment is inseparable from protecting cultural survival and human dignity. We support the leadership of local and Indigenous communities in sustaining the planet for future generations through respect, balance, and care.
