Catalonia: International Experts Discuss Integrating the Right to Self-Determination into Catalan's Human Rights Action Plan

The Catalan National Assembly (ANC) organized a debate on the right to self-determination this evening with the presence of international experts. The participants accused the Spanish State of not guaranteeing the human rights of Catalans and of persecuting their right to self-determination with the judgment of 1-O. The meeting is part of the Human Rights Plan for Catalonia promoted by the Catalan Ombudsman, whose conclusions will be transferred to the Parliament and the Generalitat this fall.
The UNPO Secretary-General, Ralph Bunche, believes that the Catalan government should have its own plan because the Spanish government is "inadequate". The president of the Research Institute for the Self-determination of Peoples and National Independences (IRAI), Daniel Turp, recalled that "the right to self-determination belongs to peoples, not to states," and that "it is important to affirm it "although it cannot be implemented.
L’Assemblea Nacional Catalana (ANC) ha organitzat aquest dimarts al vespre un debat sobre el dret a l’autodeterminació amb la presència d’experts internacionals. Els participants han acusat l’Estat espanyol de no garantir els drets humans dels catalans i catalanes i de perseguir el dret a l’autodeterminació amb el judici de l’1-O. La trobada s’emmarca en el Pla de drets humans propi per a Catalunya impulsat pel Síndic de Greuges, les conclusions del qual seran traslladades al Parlament i a la Generalitat aquesta tardor.
El secretari general de la Organització de Nacions i Pobles No Representats (UNPO), Ralph Bunche, considera que el govern català ha de tenir el seu propi pla perquè el del govern espanyol és “insuficient”. El president de l’Institut de Recerca per a l’Autodeterminació dels Pobles i les Independències Nacionals (IRAI), Daniel Turp, ha recordat que “el dret a l’autodeterminació pertany als pobles, no als estats”, i que “és important afirmar-lo” encara que no es pugui implementar.
