On 11 February 1991, leaders from 15 movements for self-determination met at the Peace Palague in The Hague to establish an organization dedicated to amplifying the voices of nations and peoples systematically excluded from the international system. From that historic moment, the Unrepresented Nations and Peoples Organization (UNPO) has remained committed in its mission to advocate for democracy, human rights, and self-determination worldwide.
The past year marked a significant milestone for UNPO, with the launch of a new Strategic Plan, an expanded Advisory Board, and the addition of new members. As we step into our 34th year, we do so with renewed strength, fresh initiatives, and an unwavering commitment to our cause.
In 2025, UNPO will host transformative activities, including webinars on language rights, democratic pluralism, and women in diplomacy. A highlight of the year will be our first-ever Self-Determination Conference, where members will engage in critical discussions on global political shifts, inclusive democracies, new forms of colonization, and the intersection of environmental rights and self-determination. Throughout the year, we will also continue to strengthen UNPO’s engagement with international bodies, continuing our advocacy through submissions, reports, and active participation in key global forums.
As we commemorate our 34th anniversary, UNPO extends a sincere thanks to its members, Presidency Board, Management Committee, Advisory Board and Secretariat.
We couldn’t do our work without your support! UNPO extends a special thanks to all our supporters and donors. Your unwavering commitment ensures that the voices of unrepresented nations and peoples are heard and represented in the global state.
