Oromo: 287 Development Projects Underway

Some 287 development projects are being carried out in east Hararge zone of the Oromia state with more than 18 million birr this budget year [2009], zone finance and economy development bureau disclosed.   
 
Office project assessment and monitoring expert, Mohammud Ahmed told WIC today [12 March 2009] that the projects are underway in 16 localities of the zone.  Most of the health, education, potable water and agriculture development projects are being carried out in places with acute shortage of social service provision facilities, the expert said.
 
The projects include maintenance of rural road, expansion of micro and small-scale enterprises, farmers training centers, offices and toilets, he said.
Up on going fully operational by the coming June [2009], the projects would benefit over 21 million residents in the zone, according to Mohammud.
   
The budget for the execution of the projects was allocated by the state government and the woreda administration.

The office is providing the necessary support to finalize the projects according to the set time, he added. (END)
