All stakeholders should be taken on board to bring durable peace and socio-economic development in Balochistan, President Asif Ali Zardari said on Thursday [19 February 2009]. “All stakeholders should be on the same page to make concerted efforts towards development in Balochistan province,” he said while co-chairing a meeting with Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani to review the situation in Balochistan.
A statement by the Presidency said that briefings were given on development activities, the law and order situation in the province and security measures taken by law-enforcement agencies. The release of abducted UN official John Solecki was also discussed.
Information Minister Sherry Rehman, Interior Adviser Rehman Malik, Balochistan Governor Zulfiqar Magsi, Chief Minister Aslam Raisani and Army chief Gen Ashfaq Kayani attended the meeting. Earlier, Gilani and Gen Kayani met the president to discuss “matters pertaining to the regional situation”, according to an official statement.
