Below is a press release published by the CNW Group:

The Dene Nation and the Assembly of First Nations are pleased to announce the Dene Nation National Environment and Water summit this November 4 to 6, 2008 in the territory of the Yellowknives Dene in Yellowknife, NWT. This meeting is of significant importance for First Nations, and will provide a forum for delegations to discuss water and water related concerns as they relate to First Nation, Inuit and Metis communities across Canada.

This summit will bring together our Traditional Knowledge keepers with those familiar with new technology to talk about the protection of the sacred element of water for our future generations. By bringing these experts together during the summit, participants will have an opportunity to develop strategies and policies to prepare for the impacts of climate change, industrial pollution and development on water.

Delegates from across Canada will have an opportunity to share their experiences, triumphs and tragedies regarding the water in their territories and to talk about the methods that they have used to protect and clean their waterways. This summit will also provide an opportunity to share information, ideas, innovations, and best practices that seek to both inspire and identify solutions to help deal with Canada's ever growing water crisis.
