Kosova Municipal Elections

On 26 October 2002, municipal elections were held in Kosova.
With a voter turnout of 53.9% and a diversity of parties that reflects the Kosova population, this vote was another success in the building of a new democratic society.

A proportional representation system is used for the translation of votes into seats, ensuring that in each municipality the political parties are represented in proportion to the votes they received.
Of the 920 newly elected municipal representatives almost half have no experience in public office.
To help these newly elected officials, the OSCE has set up a training schedule that will give all elected officials a basic knowledge of their duties and responsibilities.
