Students have commemorated the 15th anniversary of the Abkhaz-Georgian war. For the first time, Georgian journalists have also been able to attend and cover events.

Below is an article published by the Georgian Times:

Several tens of Abkhaz students have held a rally on the Enguri Bridge. Students from Ochamchire and Sokhumi were dressed in white T-shirts with green strips and held black flags dating back to the King Leon. Students mark the 15-th anniversary from the beginning of the Abkhazian war. Georgian journalists and reporters were for the first time allowed to cover the demonstration without obstacles.

Abkhaz students arrived at the Enguri Bridge, which is the conditional border with Georgia's breakaway Abkhazia. After the peaceful rally is over the students will hold a mourning demonstration towards Sokhumi and other students from Psou, Gudauta and Gagra will join them on their way to the Abkhazian capital city, where they are expected to arrive tonight [13 August 2007] or early on Tuesday [14 August 2007] morning.

On 14 August [2007] the students will hold a large-scale demonstration outside the office of the council of ministers, which burnt in during ethnic war in Abkhazia. The demonstration is dedicated to the 15-th anniversary of the beginning of Abkhazian war.

The rally is organized by the youth wing of the Aidgilara [Unity] political movement founded in Moscow. Almost all youth organizations have declared support to the demonstration.

Abkhaz students say their rally is motivated by peaceful goals only and add they are prepared to meet with the members of the New Generation - New Initiative youth NGO and talk about the future activities provided they recognize independence of Abkhazia.
