Following killings and arrests of Hmong villagers by the Laotian army, the World Hmong People’s Congress has issued an appeal to the international community.

UNPO is concerned by the situation of the Hmong in Laos after recent reports of violence and deaths. According to Thai newspaper The Nation, Radio Free Asia, and testimonies collected by the World Hmong People’s Congress, 6 civilians have been killed and 37 arrested on 5 July 2007 in the Hmong village of Ban Xaichalern (Bokeo Province, Laos).

These reports suggest that despite the Laotian Government claims, the persecution of the Hmong people is still ongoing in Laos. The New-York-based World Hmong People’s Congress has asked the United Nations and the international community to take action to prevent this systematic suppression.
