Taking the opportunity time has once again afforded now, we feel urged to make this statement of our steadfast commitment to the peace process for finding a lasting solution to the Indo-Naga political issue. Change of hands in the Indian party-politics does not in any sense effect the commitment of the National Socialist Council of Nagalim as the issue is between the Government of India and the Naga people. In this connection, it should be remembered that the Congress party headed by the then farsighted Prime Minister Mrs Indira Gandhi took the initiative for political solution, using feelers. Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi continued with the initiative with insight after his mother. But, unfortunately, the feelers themselves bungled the process. After a period of ten years Prime Minister Narasimha Rao took the initiative afresh in all sincerity, saying, "I do not believe in force; I believe in peaceful means, we must solve the problem". Clear terms for the talks were agreed upon and we have been working all along strictly adhering to them. Then came the coalition Government led by Prime Minister Deve Gowda sincerely upholding the principles of peaceful means. In spite of their short duration in power their earnest efforts were unquestionable. Turn of time brought the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition Government to power. They also were equally committed to the same doctrine of non-violence as expressed by the former Prime Minister Vajpayee- "Use of violence is ruled out''. Though it has taken much time it is a fact that the nature of the issue is now better understood than ever before. Thanks to the wisdom of the leadership who believe in non-violence.

We warmly congratulate the new Congress-led Government. We do hope they are for peace and honorable solution.
