Kohima, May 31: Nagaland minister for higher education Shurhozelie Liezietsu today inaugurated Global Open University at Wokha, 74 km from here.

“Education is vital for social uplift and higher education is essential for all-round development,” he said.

Lauding successful implementation of communitisation of public institutions in the state, Liezietsu said many village communities had been successfully running schools.

“In our drive to provide vocational training and professional education to the Naga students and opening up more opportunities for them, two private universities — Global Open University and Institute of Chartered Financial Analysts of India (ICFAI) University have been set up.”

Urging the jobless youths not to lose heart, he said: “The Naga youths will be rewarded through employment opportunities.”

He thanked pro vice-chancellor of the new university P.R. Trivedi for creating infrastructure for higher studies and vocational training.

Minister for health and family welfare T.M. Lotha and parliamentary secretary Nkhao Lotha sought the people’s support and cooperation to make the university an ideal seat of learning.

While Trivedi announced action plans of the new university, vice-chancellor M. Motsuo Ngullie gave the welcome speech.

Director, higher education of the university, Imotemsu Ao proposed the vote of thanks. Administrative officer N. Mhao Lotha chaired the function. A host of dignitaries were also present.
