Khmer Krom: Forced Assimilation Ratified


The Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung has ratified a project of forced assimilation of the indigenous Khmer-Kroms and other ethnic minorities

The Vietnamese PM Nguyen Tan Dung has ratified a project of forced assimilation of the indigenous Khmer-Kroms and other ethnic minorities into the Vietnamese culture, in the name of security and national unity and fighting poverty.

The project specifically aim at the Mekong Delta which majority of Khmer Kroms lives, bringing in force what is called “rooting out backward factors”. This legislation gives Vietnamese authorities more power to control and shape the daily life of Khmer-Krom, including Buddhist temples and other cultural and art activities.
