Self-determination Conference 1996

The question of Self-determination;
the cases of East Timor, Tibet and Western Sahara.

At the initiative of the leaders of Tibet, East Timor and Western Sahara, a conference on the subject of self-determination took place in Geneva during the 52nd session of the UN Commission on Human Rights.

The conference was intended to look at three prominent situations, all of which center around the right to self-determination, that have remained unsolved for several decades, and to analyse the issues and problems in particular as they relate to UN action.
