Montagnards: King Sihanouks statement on the current Montagnard situation in Vietnam
Statement by NORODOM SIHANOUK
Pyongyang, 14 April 2004
This Morning, I received a message from the Hon. Mr SON CHHAY (Sam Rainsy Party)
dated 11 April 004, urging me to react to the unfortunate fate of the Montagnards
coming from a neighboring country and that are seeking refuge in Cambodia escaping
the oppression and other mistreatments and injustices.
If one could find the time to read some of my writings and
other manuscripts contained in my BMDs, one would clearly see that I have taken,
and continue to take, a firm and clear position in favor of the misfortunes
of the Montagnards.
Today, I call on the Royal Government of Cambodia and the United Nations to
protect the Montagnards and not to expel, or let be expelled, from Cambodia,
these unlucky fellows that are seeking shelter in our country.
Between 1953 (year when Cambodia gained its total independence) and 1969 (end
of the SANGKUM REASTR NIYUM), I have never ceased to accept to Cambodia and
to officially protect all the political refugees as well as others that were
coming from neighboring countries.
