Oromo: Enquiry Commission Commences Activities by Electing Leaders


The Enquiry Commission, which was recently established to investigate the atrocities perpetrated on life and damages on property in Oromia state, has officially begun activities by electing its leadership

The Enquiry Commission, which was recently established to investigate the atrocities perpetrated on life and damages on property in Oromia state, has officially begun activities by electing its leadership.


The commission elected yesterday Belay Mekonnen as chairman, and Girma Worku as Deputy Chairman unanimously.


It was noted on the occasion that the elected executives are experienced professionals trained in law and not affiliated to any political party.


The executive committee members of the commission took oath at the Oromia state Supreme Court vowing to discharge their responsibilities by abiding to the law and the constitution of the country.


Speaker of Council of the Oromia state, Dr. Mohammed Hassen, urged the members of the commission to competently fulfill their responsibilities and pledged that the state government would provide the necessary support for the commission.


The 13-member enquiry commission, which consists of scholars, the elderly, representatives of religious institutions and the business community, was set up on March 24,2006.
