The Mekong Delta-based office of the Government's Committee for Nationalities held a get-together with over 100 Khmer people from various localities on the occasion of Khmer people's Chol Chnam Thmay traditional lunar new year.

The representatives included Khmer monks from the Associations for Solidarity of Patriotic Monks of the localities, and Khmer veteran revolutionaries.

Conveying his best wishes to Khmer soldiers, monks and people in the Mekong delta on the occasion, the Committee Chairman-Minister Ksor Phuoc praised the Khmer people's will to broaden their knowledge and build wealth.

He stressed officials, religious dignitaries and intellectuals of the Khmer group should pay attention to education and training, human resource development, cultural preservation, and economic development.

The representatives expressed their satisfaction with Party and State's care to help Khmer people to improve their living conditions through programmes to eradicate poverty.

Under such programmes, hundreds of billions of Vietnamese dongs were invested in 206 poor communes of ethnic minority people in the Mekong Delta. Over 60,000 Khmer families were provided with land, housing and safe water.

So far, Bac Lieu province and Can Tho city have granted houses to 100 percent of their poor Khmer families.-Enditem
