Army is likely to take complete dministrative control of Sindh due to fear of terrorism, disruption, bloodletting and tribal clashes during the forthcoming local government elections, the political pundits predicted on Monday.

As the decision of deployment of army for patrolling in Karachi and rural areas of Sindh has already been taken and now the decision of giving them complete administrative control in the designated areas or all over the province could be taken at any time, they said.

The decision of giving complete control to army might be taken in view of intelligence report to Interior Ministry, which has warned of potential terrorist activities in all major cities on Independence Day and during LG polls, they said.

If any untoward incident occurs on Independence Day then the decision of giving complete control to army in Sindh is sure or else this decision would be taken when the law and order situation spirals out of control, they opined.

Talking to newsmen while visiting Korangi Association of Trade and Industry on Monday Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad also hinted that Army would be deployed during LG polls and it might be given complete administrative control if needed.

However, he said, at the moment the decision of army deployment in Sindh has been taken as standby arrangements for LG polls and the task of administrative control has been assigned to Rangers and Police, he said.

Arrangements for LG elections have been finalized, Dr Ishrat said. He called upon the opposition to help government in holding LG elections in peaceful environment instead of spreading fear of bloodletting and terrorism among the people.

Dr. Ishrat called upon the people to stop those religious orators and scholars who are found delivering hatred speeches and spreading bigotry.

The people should not act as silent spectators but should stop those fundamentalists and extremists, he said adding that the minority of extremists has brought bad name to country.

He stressed the need that the silent majority should play role in blocking the way of extremists in the forthcoming LG elections.
