With the Cold War coming to an end, UNPO was founded as an organization owned by those people whose quest for liberation had not been truly realized by the decolonization agenda following the Second World War.

It was created as a means to provide those people a voice and organization that they can control, and to show the world a different path than the one it had been on: a world order based on non-violence, democracy, inclusion, and equal rights to self-determination, as opposed to merely the arbitrary boundaries of the post-colonial internationally-recognized states.  

Throughout the year of our 30th Anniversary, UNPO will be holding a series of events around the world to commemorate our organization's history and to highlight how, despite numerous successes over the years aiming to democratize the international system and liberate unrepresented people, the agenda for which the UNPO was founded remains just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. This page will be updated throughout the year to provide details of those events and a place to gather stories from the past 30 years of UNPO.
