UNPO Statement on Cameroon Government Attempts at Intimidation at UN Event in Geneva

UNPO Strongly condemns the actions of what appeared to be Cameroon government officials attempting to identify and brazenly intimidate Ambazonia activists during a United Nations Human Rights Council side event in Geneva on the 13th of September this year of 2018.

UNPO’s members the Ambazonia Governing Council were attending an HRC side event to talk about inclusivity and intersectionality in the context of promoting Unrepresented Women’s rights. The Ambazonian delegation in Geneva was also ambushed at the airport by embassy officials looking to identify and intimidate them.

Since the outbreak of the Ambazonian uprising, the Biya regime has systematically targeted both domestic-based activists and activists in the diaspora. The latter are particularly vulnerable to intimidatory tactics after the escalation of the crisis in the past two years.

UNPO continues to support the right of activists advocated for self-determination and other important struggles of emancipation at an international level without being subject to pressure from their state of residence or origin.
