Abkhazia: Country Mourns the Loss of Prime Minister Gennady Gagulia


On the evening of 8 September 2018, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Abkhazia died in a tragic car crash after  returning from an official visit to Syria, earlier last week. Gennady Gagulia, 70, was a three-time Prime Minister and an “outstanding statesman”, said the Office of the President, “Mourning will be declared. We should say farewell with state honours to our deceased friend Gennady Gagulia who has done so much for his Homeland”.

A member of UNPO since 1991, Abkhazia is a state whose declaration of independence was recognised by Nauru, Nicaragua, Russia, Syria,  Venezuela and Syria. UNPO wishes to extend its sincerest condolences to the Republic of Abkhazia and to the friends and relatives of Gennady Gagulia.
