Tibet: President Promotes Scientific Development Concept

Chinese President Hu Jintao underlined the scientific concept of development and called for efforts to concretely serve people's interests while joining a panel discussion of National People's Congress (NPC) deputies fromsouthwest China's Tibet Autonomous Region Saturday. Hu urged local committees of the Communist Party of China (CPC)and governments at various levels in Tibet to do their utmost for a faster social and economic development of the region and score greater achievements to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the founding of the autonomous region. Hu also voiced his support for the government work report delivered by Premier Wen Jiabao at the opening of the annual NPC session Saturday morning. The national strategy on development of the west regions will be further promoted, said Hu, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, stressing the importance of serving the vital interests of the people and calling it a requirement of the scientific concept of development. He also stressed the importance of constructing a harmonious socialist society full of "democracy, rule of law, faith, vitalityand order", echoing a notion recently endorsed by the central authorities as the new guidelines for the country's social and economic development.
