Modern Ukraine is hard to imagine without the Crimean Tatars, which means that studying their history, Ukrainian come to know themselves. Ukrainian historian Andrei Ivanets, the author of the afterword to the monograph on the first Chairman of the government of the Crimean People's Republic, the first Mufti of the Crimea, Noman Çelebicihan, stated in commentary to QHA.

[On] February 20, a public lecture devoted to the life of Noman Çelebicihan was held in Kyiv, where Ivanets spoke about the path of becoming of the outstanding Crimean Tatar politician. According to the scholar, the history of the Crimean Tatars is an integral part of the history of the Ukrainian political nation.

“Crimean Tatars are the indigenous people of the Crimea, and hence of Ukraine. Everything that happened to them [at the beginning of the twentieth century and today - Ed.] fully belongs to the Crimean Tatars and Ukrainians. 
Knowing the history of the Crimea, we get to know ourselves,” Ivanets emphasized.

The historian said that, according to his observations, Ukrainians are now taking an interest in the history of Crimea.

Earlier, a presentation of the translated edition of the book of the Crimean Tatar classicist Yunus Kandym about the leader of the Crimean Tatar national movement in 1917, Noman Çelebicihan, was held in Kyiv. The book was first published in 2002 in the Crimean Tatar language.
