Kosovo: Singapore Joining the Ranks of Those Recognizing Country’s Independence

On 1 December 2016, Kosovo’s Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj announced on Twitter that his country and Singapore had started establishing diplomatic relations. The island city-state in Southeast Asia recognized Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state, being the 113th country in the world to do so.

Below an article published by B92:

Kosovo Foreign Minister Enver Hoxhaj on Thursday [1 December 2016] announced on Twitter that Singapore had recognized Kosovo "as a sovereign and independent state."

He said this was "113th diplomatic recognition," and that "diplomatic relations have been established between Singapore and Kosovo."

Kosovo President Hashim Thaci and other Pristina officials also tweeted this news, expressing their gratitude to the Asian nation.

Serbia reject the unilateral declaration of its southern province's independence, made in 2008, and considers it a violation of its territorial integrity.
