Newsletter December 2015 - January 2016

In light of the urgent need to raise international awareness of the overlooked plight of the Iraqi Turkmen, UNPO continued its advocacy efforts during the months of December and January. In addition to organising advocacy meetings for the Head of the Iraqi Turkmen Front in Brussels, UNPO also received the Deputy Governor of the Iraqi province of Saladin.

After a year long advocacy campaign undertaken jointly by UNPO's members from Ethiopia and the Secretariat, the European Parliament passed an urgent human rights resolution, condemning, in particular, a series of recent attacks on Oromo protesters, but also drawing attention to the systematic human rights violations perpetrated by the regime in all parts of the country, including in Ogaden.

In December, UNPO launched a crowdfunding campaign aimed at helping Haratin children in Mauritania - who due to their ethnicity are often stuck in a cycle of discrimination, exclusion and even slavery - accessing education. We have almost raised the necessary funds, but we still need your generous support! Donate now, and make a lasting difference!
