Newsletter July/ August 2014

Dear UNPO Members and friends,

The months of July and August were eventful for UNPO. Three new members joined our organization and we were active in showing support for our members by participating in demonstrations taking place in The Hague, Paris and Brussels. We had the pleasure to represent the Mapuche at Fiesta Latina, a festival celebrating Latin American culture, in Brussels in August. Coinciding with Fiesta Latina, we also sent a delegation of observers to monitor the presidential elections in Abkhazia. We compiled and published a number of reports, including an Alternative Report to the CERD on the discrimination of minorities in Iraq, and a report on Enforced Disappearances.  One of the most pressing issues has been the deteriorating humanitarian situation of the minority and indigenous groups in Iraq at the hands of the Islamic State (formerly ISIS).  For more details, please download the newsletter below.
