Ogoni: UNEP Report Still Pending Implementation

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has stated that the federal government of Nigeria has yet to begin the implementation of the report of the United Nations Environment Programme on Ogoniland. Moreover, MOSOP believes  the federal government is spreading falsehoods about the situation in Ogoniland.

Below is an article published by the Nigerian Newspaper Leadership.

The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has said that the federal government is yet to begin the implementation of the report of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) on Ogoni land as claimed by the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) director-general, Mr Peter Idabor.

MOSOP, in a statement issued yesterday [11 February 2014] in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, accused NOSDRA director-general of spreading falsehood about the situation in Ogoni land, pointing out that few months back, the same Idabor made similar assertions during an interview with newsmen.

The statement, which was signed by MOSOP president, Legborsi Saro Pyagbara, reads in part; “The Movement for the Survival of the Ogoni People (MOSOP) has condemned the resurrection of the strategy of deceit by the Nigerian government to delude and confuse unsuspecting Nigerians and the international community that it has begun implementing the UNEP report on Ogoni land.

“The director-general of National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA), Mr Peter Idabor had on behalf of the federal government brazenly proclaimed the falsehood during an interview granted the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja last week.
