Crimean Tatars: Rally Against Dictatorship


On Tuesday, 28 January 2014, the Mejlis of the Crimean Tartar People will organize a peaceful rally in Simferopol, calling for democracy and the end of the bloodshed in Ukraine.

The Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people is planning to hold a rally on Simferopol's central Lenin Square on Tuesday, January 28, with the request to stop bloodshed and the establishment of a dictatorship in Ukraine, preserve its territorial integrity and independence, cancel the anti-democratic laws adopted by the Ukrainian parliament on January 16 and restore the rights of the Crimean Tatars, reads a statement posted on the official Web site of the Mejlis.

"We have responded to many appeals coming to the Mejlis from the Crimean Tatars and not only the Crimean Tatars. In this regard, the Mejlis decided to hold a peaceful rally on the central square in Simferopol at 1200 on January 28, 2014, the main slogan of which will be the call to stop bloodshed and the establishment of a dictatorship in Ukraine," the chairman of the Mejlis, Refat Chubarov, said at an extraordinary extended meeting of the Mejlis on Saturday [25 January 2014].
