A national shutdown called upon by Shibir opposition has spared Chittagong Hill Tracts to allow for local new year festivities to go on.

Below is an article published by bdnews24:

Islami Chhatra Shibir withdrew their Thursday shutdown in the three hill tracts of Chittagong – Rangamati, Bandarban and Khagrachhari – to allow local tribespeople to go ahead with the festivals without any difficulty.

The tribals are observing festivals like Biju, Sangrai, Boishuk, Bishu, Bihu in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

A statement on behalf of Rangamati Shibir Chief Shahidullah Kausar, Khagrachari Chief Minhaz Uddin and Bandarban Chief Harun Ar Rashid claimed that Shibir central President Mohammad Delwar Hossen was arrested intentionally over false case.
He (Delwar) has been taken away under 14-day remand and is being tortured, said the statement.

Shibir called the shutdown nationwide, but due to tribal festivities, the three regions are to be spared the shutdown, the statement read.

The tribal festivities herald the passing of a year and welcoming a new one.
