Sindh: Government Has Failed To Combat Floods


Many buildings and roads are closed, diseases are spreading rapidly, but administration is slow to help

The administration has failed to drain water accumulated in several areas of Southern Punjab, Sindh and Balochistan following monsoon rains and floods.

In the Sadiqabad area of Dera Ghazi Khan, several feet of water is accumulated while in Rojhan the situation is the same. The district administration had claimed that 3,000 flood affectees are currently in relief camps while several families have returned home.

In Jaffarabad and Naseerabad, Balochistan water has not been drained even after twelve days. Up to four feet of water is still accumulated in several areas. The Railway station, Civil Hospital and the offices of the Deputy Commissioner, DPO and Judges are still inundated.

Roads such as the Sindh-Balochistan National Highway and railway tracks remain closed.

In Khairpur, Ghotki, Shikarpur and Kashmore areas of Sindh, diseases are spreading rapidly and have claimed the life of a six year old. Two children have also drowned in flood water near Shikarpur.
