The Somaliland Ministry of Planning and Development held a meeting Wednesday and Thursday [29 and 30 August 2012] to showcase the work of United Nations and local agencies working in Somaliland.

The meeting was the first of its kind held in the region in 20 years, Ubah Mohamed Ismail, head of the ministry's co-ordination unit, told Sabahi.

Minister of Planning and Development Saad Ali Shire said 20 UN agencies are registered in Somaliland, as well as up to 50 international non-governmental organisations and more than 300 local ones.

The meeting intended to create opportunities for members of agencies in Somaliland to meet each other, Shire said in a speech at the inaugural meeting, headed by Somaliland Vice President Abdirahman Abdullahi Ismail.

Shire said about 30% of Somaliland's revenue comes from relief agencies.
