Oromo: New Education Facilities Constructed


In a bid to increase access to education, the public in the North Shao Zone of Oromia State has contributed more than 12 million birr, in the form of cash and labour, to build new educational facilities.

[The] Public in North Shoa Zone of Oromia State have constructed education facilities valued at more than 12 million birr in the last nine months, the zonal education office said.

Office deputy head, Tibebu Tadesse told ENA that the educational facilities include the construction of class rooms and teachers' residential units.

The public has contributed over five million birr in cash and the balance through labor and in kind.

More than 159 primary schools and alternative basic education centers and satellite schools have been constructed, he said.

The deputy head said the public has also constructed three secondary schools in various woredas of the zone.

The facilities would raise the education coverage of zone to 96 from 89 percent previously.

Fiche town Teacher’s Association Deputy Head Mekete Kassahun and Parent- Teachers' Union Chairperson Col. Gezmu Gadissa lauded the contribution of the public toward ensuring quality education.

Owing to the active participation of the public in education sector, changes have been witnessed in the day to day activities of the schools, they said.
