Abkhazia: Newly Elected President Inaugurated in Sokhum


Recently elected President Alexander Ankvab has been officially inaugurated during a ceremony in which he affirmed his commitment to strengthening prosperity, peace and tranquillity for the multinational Abkhazian people.

Today [29.09.11] inauguration ceremony of the elected President of Abkhazia Alexander Ankvab was held in Sukhum. Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, members of the Abkhazian Parliament and the Supreme Court were among the guests of the swearing-in ceremony.

Due to the untimely death of the President Sergey Bagapsh no foreign guests were invited for the inauguration ceremony.

Alexander Ankvab took an oath on the Constitution text pledging to strictly observe all of its orders, to be a guarantor of its strict enforcement by the authorities and to respect the rights and freedom of the Abkhazian people.

After the swearing-in ceremony Alexander Ankvab was given the attributes of the presidential power – a seal with the State Emblem and the presidential standard.

Nugzar Ashuba, Speaker of the People's Assembly of Abkhazia, Valentina Matvienko, Chairman of the Russian Federation Council, and Robert Kokoyty, South Ossetian Ambassador, made a welcoming speech at the inauguration ceremony.
