Somaliland: Visit from UK Foreign Office Minister


Mr Bellingham, the UK Minister of State for African Affairs, has praised the Somaliland Parliament for their efforts to strengthen democracy in the country.

A delegation from the United Kingdom, led by the Minister of State for African Affairs at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office arrived on a short visit to Somaliland on Sunday, July 24th, 2011. During their visit, the delegation are expected to hold talks with the Somaliland President, Mr. Ahmed Mohamed Mohamud "Silanyo", members of the Somaliland government, members of both chambers of the Somaliland parliament, officials from the Somaliland opposition parties, social and community activists, and business leaders in Somaliland.

During the visit to Somaliland, Mr. Bellingham took the opportunity to address the Somaliland House of Representative. In his speech, the minister stated the United Kingdom will support Somaliland's continued efforts toward social development, national stability and security, good governance and the fight against terrorism and piracy in the region. 

Mr. Bellingham, Minister of State for African Affairs, congratulated the members of both chambers of the Somaliland parliament on their efforts to strengthen democracy in the country and their commitment to the principles of democracy and accountability.
