Shan Youth Network Group holds Third General Conference


The Shan Youth Network Group (SYNG), from 23-24 March 2002 successfully convened its Third General Conference in the liberated area around on Thai-Burmese border. Present at the conference, were three advisors and 23 representatives from different areas in Thailand, who attended, reviewed and discussed the past experiences, plans for the future. Participants also elected the new executives. The Conference emphasised that SYNG will continue to carry out its mandate to achieve more cohesion among youths for further development and progress. This will be done according to the following guiding principles: Unity, Federal Union, equality, democracy, human rights, and the preservation of environment. SYNG identified the following objectives:

To be more cohesive and united among youths

To persuade the Shan youth who are able to participate in the developing process

To distribute social assistance to refugees along the border, and information on refugees to international communities and NGOs

To promote knowledge, education and democratic principles among youths.
