Iranian Kurdistan : Kurdish Political Prisoners in Imminent Danger in Iran

The recent surge in unannounced executions carried out by the Iranian regime threatens the lives of Kurdish political prisoners.

Below is a press release  published by Medya News:

A Kurdish political prisoner sentenced to death in Iran has been taken to an unknown location from Ward 4 of the Raji-Shahr prison in Karaj.

According to Harana news agency, Loqman Moradi was transferred from the ward on Sunday [30 January 2011] and was never returned.

In view of the recent spike in the number of executions by the clerical regime, there is a very likely probability of secret execution of this political prisoner.

Loqman and Zanyar Moradi have been sentenced to “moharebeh” (enmity against God) and charged with killing the son of Marivan city’s Friday Cermon.

Neither the defenders nor their lawyers have been notified of the sentencing, according to the news agency.

In a letter, the two prisoners have written that they were forced to confess to the allegations after being threatened in prison with rape.

Loqman Moradi was previously arrested on a number of occasions for supporting the Kurdish political opposition in Iran.

The Islamic regime in Iran executed another Kurdish prisoner on Wednesday, January 27.  There was no coverage of this execution as the regime had fabricated drug charges for this political prisoner.

There has been a surge of execution of political prisoners in Iran. In 2011 alone, there have been several executions of political prisoners carried out in Iran.

Hussein Khizri, a Kurdish political prisoner was hanged in Orumieh prison on January 15, 2011. The authorities have yet to publicly announce his execution.

Another Kurdish political prisoner, Habibollah Latifi, was set to be executed in the city of Sanandaj; however his execution was temporarily halted due to domestic and international outrage.

There are currently dozens of Kurdish political prisoners on death row, and 5 political prisoners, four of them Kurds were executed in Evin prison in Tehran in May 9th 2010.

Human Rights Watch reported on January 26, 2011 that “early 2011 highlights a deepening of the human rights crisis” in Iran in issuing its World Report 2011 Iran chapter.
