Somaliland: Government Forms Beautification Committee for Hargeisa


Newly elected President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud has launched a programme to improve life quality in Somaliland’s urban centres. In response to problems of road damage and insufficient sanitation in the capital city Hargeisa, a Beautification Committee has ben formed.

President Ahmed Mohamed Mohamoud named a Beautification Committee consisting of six members on Saturday [30 October 2010] according to a press release by the Presidential Palace.

According to a presidential spokesman, Mr Aukuse, the president has formed a Beautification Committee for the city of Hargeisa consisting of Dr Abdi Mohamed Gabose (Chairman), Minister of Interior and Domestic Affairs, Eng. Mohamed Hashi Elmi, Minister of Finance, Mr Hussein Ahmed Aidid, Minister of Transportation, Mr Abdullahi Jama, Minister of Press, and Mr Hussein Jiir, Mayor of Hargeisa.

The Committee will operate under the department of Public Works and will find ways to beautify the city which has been neglected for the last two decades.

The Committee will oversee and find ways to improve the city’s roads and trash problems, sanitation and environmental degradations.

This is a new initiation by the new administration to improve living conditions in Somaliland’s major urban towns.
