2009 Demonstration: Khmer Krom protest Vietnam’s human rights record at UN
May 7 - May 8, 2009
UNPO Members, the Khmer Kampuchea-Krom Federation (KKF) gathered to demonstrate against human rights abuses in Viet Nam to coincide with the 5th Session of United Nations Human Rights Council Universal Periodic Review during which Viet Nam would come under examination for the very first time. Activities included Buddhist rites, traditional dances, a die-in, human chains, flag waving and chanting. 8 KKF individuals participated in several days training to acquire lobbying and advocacy skills that were presented to the UNHCR during Vietnam’s UPR. The protest was attended by around 400 protestors from the US, Canada, France, Italy and Cambodia.
