Terming it an unlawful and illegal act, the World Sindhi Congress (WSC) strongly condemned the decision of so-called Council of Common Interests (CCI) to construct Bhasha Dam. WSC reiterated that People’s Party and its Punjabi Prime Minster have no right to decide on the matters of life and death for the people of Sindh. WSC together with all Sindhi people, in Sindh and all over the world, says ‘No to any dam and any canal on river Indus’.

The international human rights body believes that the decision is against the international laws on water and historical rights of Sindhi people. Sindhi people have carried out a sustained struggle on this issue since inception of Pakistan on all fronts including public mobilisation and have established their overwhelming case. It appears that chauvinists of Punjab are determined to kill Sindhi people and destroy Sindh by closing its lifeline.

World Sindhi Congress has warned People’s Party that they are doing all the dirty jobs aimed to irreversibly damage Sindh and Sindhi people. The incoherent statements of the toothless Chief Minster of Sindh appear to be shame hiding futile exercises.

World Sindhi Congress wholeheartedly supports all the movements, efforts, rallies, hunger strikes and processions of Sindhi people and their organisations against this highhandedness. However, WSC believes that these single-party efforts may have a limited impact against the level of determined onslaught. WSC, requests all the Sindhi parties to unite on this single issue taking in to account of their historical responsibility and formulate a coherent and effective plan of action that forces the Punjab to withdraw from their genocidal designs. In the process, they have to muster the support of civil society organisations, parties from other parts of Pakistan who support the just cause of Sindhi people.

World Sindhi Congress is working to raise issue of the gross injustice with regards to their historical and legal right on waters of river Indus at all relevant international platforms. WSC requests the international donors not to finance any water project on River Indus as this will be a violation of the Sindhi people’s basic human right to life and in contravention of international laws on water.
