Shan: Shan people bullied by Burmese army


The soldiers of Burmas Military Junta, State Peace and Development Council (SPDC) have been systematically bullying and persecuting the People of Shan State.

On 5 August, Burmese soldiers form Light Infantry Battalion – 520 lead by Lieutenant Colonel Kyaw Than came to Malan Village, Laika Township in eastern Shan State and ordered the village authority chairman U Eindi and secretary U Zawana to find a good defensive spot.

The soldiers then beat them up the two men when they failed to do so. The victims reported the incident to higher authorities but no action was been taken.

Similarly, soldiers from Infantry Battalion – 99 led by its second-in-command Major Kyaw Soe Nyunt arrived at Naungton Village in early August.

The soldiers confiscated 1.7 million kyat from the village fund, swore at the villagers, accused them of having contacts with the armed resistant group Shan State Army and beat them up before they left.
