Chittagong Hill Tracts: Kolkata Press Conference Condemns Bangladeshi Military Atrocities

One Photo Exhibition was also organized in the same venue with the photographs of recent atrocities in the CHT . The CHT Support Group, Kolkata is grateful to the contributors of all these photographs for sending them in time despite of carrying their personal risk in CHT. A short video titled as Voice of the Victims on atrocities in the CHT was also displayed in the beginning of the press Conference.

Renown citizens of Kolkata city were present in this Protest Gathering cum Press Conferee. Some of them expressed their concerns in front of the press. Among the speakers were: Ven. Bimal Bhikkhu, Convener of the CHT Support Group, Kolkata, Prof. Tarun Sayannal, a Rabindra Prize wining poet and Chairman of West Bengal Forum of the Intellectuals, Prof. Sujato Bhadra, General Secretary of APDR, a stalwart of human rights movement in India, Ven. Rewata Mahathero, General Secretary of  Mahabodhi Society of India, Mr. Debrabarata Bondhyapaddya, (IAS), a Columnist and Civil Society Activists, etc. The CHT Support Group-Kolkata also released one press statement just after the press conference and faxed one memorandum to the PM of Bangladesh with a set of demands.
 
There were positive responses from the press and a good deal of news coverage was reported on the next day, 4th March, 2010. The BBC Bangla also broadcast one item on the event with a press interview of Ven. Bimal Bhikkhu. The Dainik Statesman, Kolkata. The Indian Express (Kolkata edition) also carried report on the event. Apart from that the PTI also published one news item. The Naya Diganta, one Bengali newspaper from Bangladesh, also published one report in its own way on 4th March, 2010 covering the event.
