Sindh: Press Release World Sindhi Congress

Active ImageWorld Sindhi Congress (WSC) is deeply anxious at the disappearance of  Mr. Akash Mallah,a senior leader of Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz. He was previously kidnapped in 2006 and suffered in the torture centres for 18 months. It has been informed that he was picked by plain clothe agency personnel on 30 Nov.

Below is an article published by the World Sindhi Congress:

Although, political activists working for the genuine democratic rights of Sindhi people have always been targeted but the wide disappearance of Sindhi political leaders and workers was the hallmark of Musharaf’s dictatorial era. It only become possible due to the changed political landscape and due to the determined struggle of Sindhi people and support of international community that most of them were released after long periods of suffering in the torture centres.  The disappearance of Akash Mallag suggests that the monster of disappearance is  resurfacing again. We believe it is the duty of all the democratic forces including political parties, media, human rights and civil society organisations to stop this.

We demand from the government of Sindh to take immediate actions for his release. WSC has decided that if Akash Mallah is not immediately released his disappearance would be taken to the international human rights organisations such as Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch for their urgent help.
