In honour of the grandson of Mohandas Gandhi, Arun Gandhi, visiting the Hague, a joint group of NGOs working within the fields of human rights promotion and peacebuilding have taken the initiative to organise a special event on Friday, the 22nd of May 2009 at the Nuthuis, focusing on how to promote a culture of non-violence.

The United Network of Young Peacebuilders (UNOY), the Unrepresented Nations and People’s Organisation (UNPO), the Global Human Rights Defence (GHRD) and Culture Clash 4 You (CC4U) organised a public event to celebrate Mr. Gandhi’s visit to the international city of Peace and Justice. The evening focused on promoting a culture of non-violence amongst the youth communities in The Hague by discussion and exchange of opinions. The event also focused on encouraging the activities of organisations, associations, and cultural and ethnic groups which work in the field of peacebuilding and non-violence. It brought together youth from The Hague from cultural diverse backgrounds to jointly interact with Arun Gandhi, the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, to learn about Gandhi’s teaching concerning the importance of non-violence and the present-day implementations of that philosophy for peace and Human Rights work in the Hague and internationally.
