Two Tibetan youths returning to Tibet from exile have been brutally tortured by Chinese police after their arrest at the border near Nepal in April this year [2009], reported Chinese language website boxun.com. The two had attended school in India run by the exile Tibetan government.

Dagah and Tsuiltrim from Dechen Tibet Autonomous Prefecture in Yunnan province made their first attempt at entering Tibet in February but were stopped at the border by Chinese patrol who told them that there was a government restriction on movement of Tibetan youths across the border during that time. The two returned to Nepalese capital and headed back to the border in April but the Chinese border patrol stopped them again saying that their travel permit had expired by fifteen days.

The two were taken to a detention centre in Shigatse where Chinese police interrogated them for many days. The two were subjected to immense torture during the interrogation sessions, according to the website which added that the two Tibetans were beaten with electric batons causing severe damage to their abdomen and genitals.

The two had made telephone calls to their homes in Yunnan prior to their departure from Nepal which prompted their families to search for them. The families of the two located them at the Shigatse detention centre. Sources say that Dagah’s mother fainted on seeing her son who had become very weak. While Dagah’s family secured his release on bail Tsuiltrim’s parents are said to have left for Shigatse for his release.

Dagah was taken to a hospital in Kunming in Yunnan where he is undergoing medical treatment. Reliable sources have told the website that doctors fear Dagah might have medical complications later in his life despite his gradual recovery at the hospital.

According to the website, there are several other Tibetans at the Shigatse detention centre who had been arrested while either making their escape from Tibet or returning from exile.
