Tibet: Nepalese Government Bans Protests


Active ImageAhead of a planned “Free Tibet” demonstration, the Nepalese government bans all demonstrations criticizing the current Chinese government.

The government on Sunday [5July 2009] issued prohibitory orders on all kinds of demonstration in the country that is targeted against the Chinese rule in Tibet.

Issuing a notice, the Home Ministry said activities against China's Tibet autonomous region is prohibited and asked all to refrain from engaging in any such activities.

The government's move comes ahead of the planned 'Free Tibet' demonstration that is scheduled to start in the capital from Monday [6 July 2009] coinciding with the birth anniversary of Tibetan religious leader the Dalai Lama.

Nepal has always stood in favor of 'One China policy', which recognizes Tibet as an integral part of China.
