UNPO Presidency Member to Speak at the UN Durban Review Conference

Durban Review
UNPO Presidency Member to discuss issues of racism and racial discrimination in Asia at a forum organised as part of the United Nations Durban Review Conference.

UNPO Presidency Member and representative for Tibet, Mr. Ngwang Choephel, will be speaking at an event at the United Nations Durban Review Conference, which is currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland.

The event is entitled ‘The Lost Issues of Asia’ and has been organised to ‘provide a forum for the articulation of voices from Asia on the various issues that afflict the communities because of racism and racial discrimination.’

It will also be used as an opportunity to allow different Asian communities to interact with each other and to highlight issues which currently affect them. It is also hope that it will facilitate the sharing of advocacy efforts and strategies amongst the non-governmental organisations that will be attending.

The Durban Review Conference has been organised to evaluate the progress towards the goals set by the World Conference Against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Programme of Action that was agreed in Durban, South Africa in 2001.
