A large delegation from the Swedish government has arrived in Somaliland on a working visit.

The delegation led by the Swedish Minister for African Affairs, Mrs. Marica and the Swedish Ambassador to Kenya, Ambassador Choran were met at Egal International Airport by Senior members of the Somaliland Foreign Ministry, members of both chambers of the Parliament.

The Swedish minister for African Affairs, Mrs. Marica speaking to the media upon arrival in Hargeisa, stated that the delegation's visit is to see first hand the developments, security and the democratic process taking place in Somaliland.

Mrs. Marica, Swedish minister for African Affairs also stated that her delegation will have discussions with members of the government, members of both chambers of Parliament, opposition leaders, officers from the national elections commission, local business leaders and social activists in order to get a comprehensive viewpoint of the developments in Somaliland.

Sweden is scheduled to assume the EU presidency during the summer of 2009 and are also expected to send observers to the forth-coming Somaliland presidential and local assembly elections.
