Georgia has severed diplomatic ties with Nicaragua which has recognized  [Abkhazia and South Ossetia] as independent states following Russia's suit.

The Foreign Ministry said in a news release on Saturday [29 November 2008] Georgia had suspended the 1994 agreement establishing diplomatic relations with the Central American state and sent a note to its mission at the United Nations.

Tbilisi earlier severed relations with Russia, which recognized South Ossetia and Abkhazia after a brief war with Georgia, which had attacked South Ossetia in a bid to retake it under central control in early August [2008].

Abkhazia and South Ossetia have so far only been recognized by Russia and Nicaragua.
