Vice-President PML-N and MNA Muhammad Afzal Khokhar has said that next president should be from Balochistan to end sense of deprivation among the people of the largest province of the country.

In a statement here Saturday [23 August 2008], he said, “People of Balochistan have been facing hardships and afflictions due to wrong policies of Pervez Musharraf and it is our national duty to redress their grievances and bitternesses.”

He said PML-N leadership considers country and democracy more important than presidentship asserting “Political leaders would have to give sacrifices and rise above personal and political interest to strengthen federation.”

He said Pakistan cannot afford any disputed political decision on any important national issue at this critical juncture.

Khokar said PML-N Chief Nawaz Sharif’s approach about national issues, including independence of judiciary, is based on principles and reflects realistic and mature thinking.

He said Mian Nawaz Sharif believes in politics of principles and had no personal enmity with Pervez Musharraf, saying he had forgiven excesses and injustices meted out to his family during Musharraf’s rule.

However, he said, PML-N wants to bring ex-president to justice to ensure rule of law in the country.

The PML-N leader said judges must be reinstated by August 27 [2008] as nation is not ready to tolerate even a moment’s delay in this regard after the resignation of Pervez Musharraf.

He said PML-N has been showing flexibility and following policy of reconciliation to keep the ruling coalition intact, adding, it should not be misconstrued as weakness on their part.
