Georgian parliament will soon adopt a statement regarding the decision of the Russian Federation to lift sanctions to Abkhazia.

The chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee Kote Gabashvili has qualified Russia's aforementioned decision as an attempt to annex Georgian territories and added that Georgia would respond adequately. A special address would be sent to every international organization and the lawmakers would also adopt special statement or a resolution. The form of the statement will be agreed at the plenary session today [7 March 2008].

MP Malashkhia, who chairs the provisionary commission for territorial affairs said his commission had also drafted a statement. He believes that Russia tries to escalate tension with Georgia before the Bucharest summit of the NATO and waiting for adequate responding steps from Georgia.
